Whitening for an amazing smile!

As we age and teeth become discoloured, teeth whitening is a way to restore a younger and fresher look to your teeth. Smoking and certain drinks stain teeth and teeth whitening procedure can help to remove those imperfections.
Professional bleaching is the most effective way of tooth whitening whilst leaving your teeth untouched. Your dentist can advise you which type of whitening to proceed with. A rubber shield or gel will be put on your gums to protect them, and then the whitening product will be applied using a specially designed tray which fits into your mouth.
The total treatment can usually be done within 3 or 4 weeks. You will need to have around 3 visits to the dentist before the whitening takes place. A mouthguard will be made and an impressions taken at the first appointment. The treatment will start at the dentist and you will carry on with it at home. You will be expected to use the whitening product for 2 to 4 weeks, applying it for 30 minutes to an hour in each session.
The powder whitening procedures such as bleaching cost around £299. Laser treatment starts from £395. Home kits are included in the price.
Teeth can become sensitive to the cold during or after treatment. Some people can suffer from discomfort around the gums, a sore throat or white patches on the gums. These are all usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of treatment.
The dead tooth which has been discoloured after root filling can have the canal reopened with the whitening product working from the inside which will whiten the tooth.
Tooth whitening will only work on natural teeth and can only whiten the colour of your teeth, for other issues please speak to your dentist.
Cut down on the amount of food and drink which stain the teeth. This will not preserve the teeth but maintain the whiteness for as long as possible.
Tooth whitening can last for 2 to 3 years and even longer in some patients. This does vary a lot depending on the patient having drinks which can stain, or if the patient smokes.
The hydrogen peroxide gel doesn’t cause any damage or harm to your teeth, gums or fillings. The treatment is completely safe and does not cause the patient any discomfort.
