Frequently Asked Questions

We have listed here some of the more commonly asked questions from our patients about hair restoration.
Q: Does it work?
Yes, hair transplantation really works. It redistributes the donor hair that is genetically programmed to grow for your lifetime.
Q: how long does it take and when will I notice any growth?
The actual procedure of transplantation takes approximately 3 hours or more. Once transplanted, results are subject to individual variation. Some patients experience hair growth from day one, most others experience a resting phase. During this time the hair remains dormant for a few months before growing normally again. As a general guide, most patients see hair growth by three months. As part of our guarantee we would like to see our patients 6 months post operatively to ensure their satisfaction and to discuss any further requirements.
Q: Will I need time off work?
This depends on your own individual circumstances. You should feel well following your procedure but many patients do prefer to take up to a week off work to allow any signs of surgery to disappear. Your consultation is a good time to discuss this.
Q: Is it painfull?
There is minimal pain during the procedure as your skin is numbed with local anaesthetic beforehand. Following surgery there will be some mild discomfort which is easily relieved by simple analgesics.
Q: Is it dangerous?
Whilst there is a risk with any form of surgery, hair transplantation is minor surgery involving only the first few layers of the skin and performed under local anaesthetic. Our qualified medical team are on hand thoughout your procedure.
Q: Will there be any scarring?
Modern follicular unit micrografting results in natural looking hair transplants with no visible scarring and the donor area scar is hidden by your own hair. The art of transplantation lies in careful placement of the grafts to give you "invisible" hair restoration.
Q: Is it expensive?
Comparatively, no. There are initial costs but this is outweighed by the benefits of having your own hair growing back again. There is no further cost involved as our new hair doesn't need expensive shampoos, maintenance or restyling. There are no wigs to be continually replaced, serviced or retied nor is there a lifetime commitment to taking drugs or using lotions.
